The Western Regional Minster, Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah says the Western Region is the biggest beneficiary of the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Reporting on the State Of The Western Region at the Ministry of Information in Accra on Wednesday, November 16, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi Constituency said, enrollment in the region has increased significantly.
He said the Free SHS programme has increased enrollment in the region from 13,210 in 2017 to 63,631 in 2022.
Dr Darko-Mensah said this shows a 683% increment which proves the programme is a success and has benefitted the majority of Ghanaians.
He said, “This is a game changer and it’s about giving children the opportunity to do things they never imagined since some families lack the financial capability.”
“I believe that education is key in getting anything done. We believe that when it comes to Free SHS, with all the oil and cocoa that we produce for Ghana, this is one of the biggest benefits the Western Region has gotten from the country and we are so grateful to the president for this.”
