Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison warned that caterers who fail to produce meals to the quality standards prescribed by his outfit may have their contracts abrogated. According to her, the School Feeding Programme under which the free hot meal intervention the President is offering has some monitoring system in place to assess the quality of meals in all schools, to enable them to check on caters.
She, however, admitted based on a question posed her during a media session today regarding the meals supplied to students at the Junior High Schools that, some schools have had issues with the quality of the foods given them.
But in a very funny response, Mrs Morrison noted that; “indeed we all know that everything is not hundred percent because even in your homes your wives food will taste very good the next day it tastes that good.”
The Minister added that a monitoring system is in place to evaluate caterers on the foods and the environment within which they are prepared. She noted that an assessment tool has been developed to allow heads of schools and pupils to appraise caterers each day.
“If we realize that your food is not up to the standard we change your contract,” she disclosed.
Mrs. Morrison mentioned that the feedback has thus far been very positive, and that government expects caterers to perform accordingly.
She however noted that certain foods that are publicized on social media to be unpleasant, may not be true, adding that; “when you see it on social media you will think it’s not delicious and nutritious but when you taste it you will realize its good.”
“So it’s not everything on social media that is true but I believe that we have a few challenges that we are working at” she added.
