From 24 August to 18 September 2020, all Junior High School students as well as staff would enjoy a hot meal each day, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has promised.
According to President Nana Addo, a total of five hundred and eighty-four thousand students and one hundred and forty-six staff from both public and private schools at the Junior High level, will benefit from this intervention. He justified during his 15th update on the COVID-19 pandemic that, students and staff have had a cause to complain about the frustrations they have to be bear in complying with the COVID-19 safety protocols due to hunger.
He disclosed that the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, has been instructed to offer hot meals once a day to all these beneficiaries within the stipulated period.
“As a result of reports I’ve recently received that some final year JHS students were going hungry in complying with COVID-19 protocols I have just instructed the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to begin preparations to ensure that as from 24 August to 18 September, all 584,000 final year JHS students and 146,000 staff both in public and private schools be given one hot meal a day. This is to ensure full observance of the COVID-19 safety protocols,” he elaborated.
By this intervention, teachers and administrators of the schools would be able to keep students on campus as instructed by the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service, within school hours. The usual loitering and search for food out of campus during break hours would be eliminated.
