Conveners of FixTheCountry, a pressure group has announced they will be embarking on a demonstration in the Capital of the Western Region, Sekondi-Takoradi, on September 21, 2021.
The group has sought permission from the Western Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service for the program as they intend for a massive demonstration than that of August 4, in Accra.
According to the group speaking at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in the capital, they chose the said date to coincide with the birthday of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah since he is from the region and to also seek ancestral support.
They made a statement after the first event saying, “As you know, yesterday’s demonstration was planned as the first of many events, and it’s supposed to kickstart a process of regional FixTheCountry demonstrations,”
One of their main demands is the change of Ghana’s 1992 constitution that is being used up to date claiming that it has enabled a political class to raid the treasury at the people’s expense.
Not only the constitution, but are also demanding improved living conditions for the average Ghanaian citizen through better health care, education, and the provision of jobs.
However, some citizens of Sekondi-Takoradi are ready to join the demonstration, to demand equal rights and quality standard of living as some did in Accra.
