It took the Fire Service five hours to calm the fire. Eyewitnesses report that the fire started at midnight [around 12:00am]. Sadly they looked as the fire razes four of Takoradi’s biggest wholesale and retail shops; including the famous First Samuel Enterprise.
Within minutes the fire had escalated into five more and threaten to torch several others, and banks adjacent it.
The wild fire kept blazing into the skies causing fear in residents as they await fire tenders to extinguish it. Properties counting into millions of Ghana cedis have already been consumed by the fire in just about 30 minutes.
The voices you hear is;”so all that money in there is burnt…everything. Oh God”
A distress call was made to the Takoradi Market Circle Fire Service Station at 12:50am.
Western Region Public Relation Officer for the Ghana Fire Service, DO3 Emmanuel Bonney said, they had to mobilise four fire tenders and three tankers to help extinguish the fire.
“The shops were filled with several combustible materials… The roofs had already caved in and we had to break into the stores to try to salvage some of the items with the support of the police” he said.
DO3 Emmanuel Bonney investigation have begun to ascertain the cause of the fire.
