Eight Health workers infected with COVID-19, as cases rises to 61 in Western Region

The Western Region Health Directorate has confirmed that eight (8) health workers from four (4) districts, have contracted the novel coronavirus.

The number represents a 13.1 percent of confirmed cases in the Western Region. Per the Daily Situational Report (No. 32) on the pandemic, the regions case counts tallies sixty-one (61), with Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis and Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal leading with nineteen (19) positive cases each. The Ahanta West and Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal follows with six (6) and four (four) cases respectively.

Total recoveries in the region remains one, and death; one. The deceased was a community nurse at the GMC Hospital in Nsuta, of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

The report further highlighted the seemingly delay or backlog of test results on samples taken to Noguchi and KCCR.

Albeit, the Takoradi Veterinary Service Lab; a Bio-safety Level 3 and 2, which was commissioned weeks ago to run COVID-19 test continues to receive and test samples from the surveillance team.

Contacts of about 1,609 have so far been listed with 1,549 identified. With the rising number of infections in the region, the Regional Health Directorate recommends that each district prepares at least one isolation center to manage cases of COVID-19.
