The Founder of the Prince Armah Foundation, Dr. Prince Hamidu Armah has supported the construction of an ultra-modern community center project at Anaji, in the Kwesinintsim Constituency of the Western Region, with an amount of twenty thousand Ghana cedi (GHC 20,000.00), and two hundred (200) bags of cement.
The donation by Dr. Prince Armah, who was born and raised in the Kwesimintsim constituency, was in fulfilment of a promise made during the 2019 celebration of the Anaji Homecoming festival for the people of Anaji.
The ultra-modern two-storey building community center is a community self-help project by the people of Anaji, led by the Chief of the area, Nana Ekra Kojo IV. The project, when completed, will have a spacious hall to foster community gathering, offices, bar, stores, and a library intended to enhance reading.
Dr Prince Armah, who is also the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), in an interaction after the donation, underscored the importance of a community center indicating his commitment to ensure the development of the constituency.
“During the celebration of the festival, I understood from Nana that they wanted to construct a community center, which is actually a good initiative, and as Guest Speaker for the program, I committed to supporting the construction of this multi facet community center that will serve in several respect, the needs of our community, particularly the people of Anaji, and so I made a commitment of GHC 20,000 and 200 bags of cement which I have fulfilled today. I have seen the foundation, indicating work is progressing and I’m impressed,” Dr. Prince Armah indicated.
Dr. Prince Armah further pledged to stock the library of the community center when the project is completed.
“I will also help with the furnishing of the library when the project is complete, in terms of the books and other resources, so I will begin to have a discussion with the Ghana Library Authority, on how the library can be adopted as one of the community libraries because the foundation of every nation is education, and education is also anchored on literacy like people being able to read and write. When you have a community with so many people, and you have a library facility, it is really a fantastic idea. One of the supports I can give is to furnish the place with books”, Dr. Prince Armah added.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief of Anaji, Nana Ekra Kojo IV, head of finance committee for the project, Isaac Quainoo expressed appreciation to Dr Prince Armah for his unalloyed commitment to support the community to raise the ultra-modern center. He further indicated the donation will go a long way to speed up the completion of the project.
