The Western Region is set to begin its vaccination on Wednesday, September 1, and it will be the administering of the one jab Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines.
According to Dr Yaw Ofori Yeboah who is the Western Regional Health Director, all the 14 districts in the region will be participating in the exercise.
The AstraZeneca vaccine will only be available as a second dose to those who took the first dose in March.
“The Johnson & Johnson is a one time jab and it is for those who have not received any form of the vaccine and persons must be 18 years and above.
Dr Yeboah also made it known it is the same team that will be administering the two types of vaccine so there would not be any confusion as to where one can get either of the vaccines.
However, he is advising persons who went for the first jab of the AstraZeneca to go to the exact location they had it for the second one.
At present, approximately 850,000 persons have received at least one dose of AstraZeneca vaccine, with a little over half receiving the second dose.
Meanwhile, the GHS, in a press statement, has asked all eligible persons to go to the vaccination centres with their valid National ID cards, preferably the one presented for the first dose, and COVID-19 vaccination cards for the second dose.
The statement, signed by Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, entreated the public to continue to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols, such as the appropriate wearing of face masks and maintaining physical distancing at the vaccination centres.
