COVID-19: Twenty-three new cases confirmed in Western Region, total now 87

Twenty-three (23) new cases of the novel coronavirus have been recorded in the Western Region, thereby putting the total case count to 87; a 35.9 percentage increase of what was reported (64) yesterday by the Regional Health Directorate.

This is the highest infection case ever recorded in just a day.

Twelve (12) of these cases were recorded from the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis, and eight (8) more recorded in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality; bringing to total 34 and 27 positive cases respectively in the two areas. The Prestea Huni Valley has recorded 2 more cases bringing its case count to 4. Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality has one new case making 5 in total.

The trend since 27 April, 2020 to date, in affected districts

A report issued by the Regional Health Directorate today disclosed that, the National IHR and the Port Health Service with support from the Regional Response Team are taking an assessment of the Takoradi Airport to determine its appropriateness to resume domestic flight operations. The airport with the support of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, disinfected all surfaces at arrival hall, departure hall, VIP lounge and other surfaces in and around the airport.
