COVID-19: Thirteen new infections, Sekondi-Takoradi worst hit in Western Region

Thirteen (13) new infections of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in the Western Region, shooting the region’s case count to one hundred and twenty-four (124).

These new cases were recorded in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis (7), and Tarkwa Nsuaem (6), bringing to total fifty-six (56) and thirty-three (33) cases of COVID-19 in the respective districts.

Forty-three (43) suspected cases have been identified and samples taken of suspected persons for testing.

So far, contacts of these patients (infected), totaling four thousand, four hundred and thirty-three (4433) have been listed and three thousand, two hundred and twenty-eight (3228) of them have been traced.

Since the outbreak, the Regional Health Directorate has reported of one thousand five hundred and sixty-four (1564) patients being tested, with two thousand six hundred and ten samples pending testing.

Taking cognizance of the rising number of infections in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis, city authorities have deployed a taskforce to ensure strict compliance to all preventive protocols detailed by the Ghana Health Service. Persons who are caught to have flouted any of  these protocols, per the sanctions prescribed by the local assembly, will be made to undergo a period of community service.
