Residents of Apremdo and its environs in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region completely ignored the Government’s physical distancing directive associated with the coronavirus outbreak when they rushed to the scene of a gas explosion which gutted parts of the ‘Abenbebom’ Market.

The majority of the residents witnessed the outbreak without wearing nose masks, whilst the few who had their nose masks did not observe the social distancing protocols.

The residents, who expressed utter shock about the outbreak, seem to have forgotten there is an outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in the country.

The Western Region has recorded twenty-five (25) confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus infection with the Effia-Kwesimitsim Municipality recording one confirmed case.

“What is happening here is very serious; we are helping them to quench the fire. We cannot observe social distancing at this particular moment,” one of them told Mpimpimhene Nana Gyetuah of Skyy Power FM.

The fire has destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana cedis with one person burnt beyond recognition.

Personnel from the fire service and the police are currently fighting so hard to contain the situation.
