COVID 19: Only two IR thermometers in Shama, assembly procuring additional PPE
It has been reported that the Shama District has only two Infrared thermometers, for COVID 19 screening on persons in the area. Admittedly, given the current crisis, the assembly as part of its preventive strategies has initiated procurement process to get additional IR thermometers and Personal Protective Equipment for the health facilities in the district.
District Chief Executive for Shama, Joseph Amoah responding to a question on these inadequacies during a media briefing yesterday, on their preparedness towards controlling the spread of the disease, disclosed that the Ghana Health Service, unfortunately, excluded districts without public hospitals from their beneficiary list, hence the exemption of Shama District.
“Its unfortunate because the report that I have is that Ghana Heath Service is only distributing the PPE to only districts with public hospitals. But unfortunately for us, we don’t have a public hospital. We only have two private hospitals- VRA and Benedict.
“That is our constraint now. We’ve decided with the district health director to see the Regional Health Director, for Shama to be considered” he narrated.
District Director of Health, Dr. Osei Assibey however reiterated that the assembly is ready to combat the COVID 19 infestation. He added that all personnel of the health service have undergone basic treating to offer the needed preventive support, as stipulated within the national protocol.
