The Paramount Chief of Upper Dixcove Traditional Area, Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV has called on his fellow Dixcovians; home and abroad, to reach out and help their fellow brothers and sisters who have unfortunately been affected by the coronavirus disease, COVID-19. He says this is the best everyone can do to help their communities come through this pandemic.
He says with each other’s support, Dixcove, and by extension, Ghana will come out of this pandemic strong and united. He reiterated that having friends and family affected by this virus who are not being fed because of lack of money is not something that Dixcovians must look on unconcerned.
Obrempong Hima-Dekyi XIV challenged his ‘subjects’ not to worry about how small their contributions will be because together, they can have a huge impact on the wellbeing of the patients.
“What we are saying is that no support is too small. In our small way, the little we can, let us help this course. Seeing your brother isolated and lying there with no food for him to feed on is not easy. So I’m calling on everyone to come and help them. Let’s help them with our little, and God will bless us,” Obrempong told the press.
The Paramount Chief made this call today when he donated some items towards the upkeep of the COVID-19 patients who are at the treatment centre at the Nana Hima Dekyi Hospital in DIxcove. A donation is in response to calls by the Ahanta West Municipal Director of Health for interventions in the area of feeding the patients.
The items included bags of rice, packs of bottled water, cartons of milk, big gallons cooking oil, toiletries, tin tomatoes, toothbrushes and paste, among others.
Speaking to the Press after the donation, Obrempong Hima Dekyi stated that the donation is to serve humanity, and to also fulfill a call the President made on all Ghanaians to help, in any small way, to help fight this novel coronavirus pandemic.
“When the President called on Ghanaians for us all to help in the fight against the coronavirus, in fact, it dawned on some of us; it touched our hearts. Especially when he made the profound statement that for the economy, at any point in time we can fix, but we can’t bring back the lives that we will lose, then we realised that it was imperative, and our fiducial role to ensure that at least we help the cause of humanity,” he said.
Obrempong Hima Dekyi who also serves as the Chairman for the Western Regional Health Advisory Committee said if he and other Dixcovians fail to help the community to go through this period, the impact will affect them all, adding that as a Leader, if he fails to help the health of his people, it will mean that he will also not be healthy.
“This is where I come from, and so when my people are not healthy, I am also not healthy. So it was incumbent on me to actually ensure that that the little that we can, we also support our people,” he said.
