Private legal practitioner and parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress in the Kwesimintsim Constituency of the Western region, Lawyer Fiifi Buckman, has expressed worry on the numerous chieftaincy disputes currently confronting the western region.
Speaking in an interaction on Skyy Power Fm, lawyer Fiifi Buckman disclosed that, there a lot of unresolved disputes, regarding chieftaincy in the courts. He says the major causes of the disputes are is the inability of the traditional council to provide satisfactorily judgements. He further revealed that, most of the cases in the courts have already been resolved at the various traditional councils but due to imbalanced judgements, the losers chose the courts for justice.
He revealed further that, kingmakers in the traditional families are mostly compromised and that give them the impetuous to hand over kingship to undeserving individuals.
“Most of the cases are dragged to house of Chiefs or court because the fairness of the procedures adopted by the traditional council is questionable. Though the constitutions spells out the right procedures and description of a prospective chief and sometimes this is very much known by the king makers, the king makers allow themselves to be influenced with money and other valuables and they compromise” Lawyer Fiifi Buckman indicated.
