The proprietor and bankroller of Division One club Berekum Arsenal FC Alhaji Yakubu Moro has passed away in Accra.
Alhaji Moro died at the Ridge Regional Hospital in Accra on Thursday night after a short illness.
The famous and opinionated football administrator had been receiving treatment in Berekum for some time. His ailment got worse and he was taken to Accra for further treatment but could not survive.
Under Alhaji Moro, Berekum Arsenal gained elevation to the Ghana Premier League in 2000 and remained so until 2013 when they got relegated.
Berekum Arsenal qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup in 2006 but were kicked out in the second round by Angolan giants Petro Atletico, after eliminating Congolese side Diables Noirs in the first round of the competition.
Alhaji Moro will be buried today, in compliance with Islamic practices.
