The 2020 edition of the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) has been cancelled, following a meeting by the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This decision was arrived at following months of careful observation and deliberations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic which initially led to the postponement of the qualifiers for the competition.
The qualifiers were initially slated for April and June 2020.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria with 11 African titles are the defending champions of the competition after defeating South Africa at the last edition of the tournament in 2018.
