“Defenders make the best captains [leaders]” – so they say yet not all defenders can beat their chest in this regard. It takes more than playing that position and to even wear the band.

The name Abeiku Ainooson will resonate with many and pick up applauds effortlessly due to honors chalked at both New Edubiase and Asante Kotoko – not forgetting several of the national team successes with the Black Stars B.

He’s paid his dues and continues to do so with the chunk of experience chopped over the last two decades; best center back in the FA Cup in 2013/14 and 2014/15, WAFU Champions medal in 2012, Silver Medalist in CHAN 2013 are few of the top honors.

He was the benchmark sometime back in Ghana’s elite division; he’s hatched the plan to help the Giants of the West to bounce back to the topflight football; so far not as envisaged but the spirited show of commitment is evident in all he’s done.

That was a close call in the invalidated season and has been a far fetch in the ongoing season, but through it all signals of dedication and valor have been evident.

The center half powered in 3 goals and ensured Hasmal remained 2 points adrift of the leaders after 13 games before Covid–19 drew its infamous circle around the 2019/2020 season – he’s scored 5 times thus far in 20 league games and remains Hasmal’s leading scorer for the current season – not so bad for a Center Back.

Abeiku Ainooson’s performances afield are his loudest validation following his stint with Sudanese Giants, Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League and the local league and he’s had some fair share of game time at the Kuwait topflight with Al Fahaheel…

It’s with this impressive show that has necessitated this tag. He’s made a mark despite the difficulties surrounding Hasmal’s campaign.

Firmed up an enviable bond between himself and the young lads; served as a fatherly figure and maintained a high level of discipline on and off the field.

The young players at Hasmal will attest to his pure love and his fatherly presence in the team
