STMA warns against streetlights cable theft

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) voiced concern over the increase in reported thefts of streetlight cables in the Metropolis and issued a warning to locals against such behaviour.

According to a statement from Madam Grace Alswell-Aidoo, STMA Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO), communicated to skyypowerfm.com in Takoradi, some people have been stealing wires used to transport electricity to streetlights around the Metropolis.

It said that in the previous three months, the STMA, with assistance from the Sekondi Member of Parliament, replaced all stolen street light wires from Nkotompo to the Independence Circle (Enamasi) stretch in Sekondi.

The statement claims that as of Monday, September 4, 2023, nine out of the eighty-eight streetlight poles whose wires were restored had already been knocked over by some dishonest people.

It said that “anyone arrested for stealing or purchasing stolen street light cables within the Metropolis will be prosecuted by the STMA without delay.”

In order to protect the wires, the Assembly is pleading with the general public to stay alert and report pedestrians or anyone whose movements around street light poles appeared suspicious:
