It has emerged that a lot of motorists, especially commercial Drivers, have fake license stickers on their cars.
Most of them had theirs issued to them by ‘goro’ boys at the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority offices or from fake insurance companies.
This came to light when Officials of the Insurance Commission, the regulatory body of insurance companies in the country and the MTTD on Tuesday, embarked on a sensitisation and monitoring tour on the Takoradi-Cape Coast High way.
The officials, through a mobile code, detected that a lot of license stickers and documents in the possession of drivers were not valid.
Area Manager of the National Insurance Commission, Justice Preprah Agyei, who spoke to Skyy News in an interview, said there is an easy way of checking the validity of the car insurance.
“We have come up with a code and all you need to do is to dial on your phone 929 57# to check,” he said.
He disclosed that 100 drivers, out of the about 400 cars checked, had either fake or expired license.
Mr Justice Preprah Agyei said these drivers are made to immediately engage the license companies for a new license.
“We came today for monitoring and sensitization, and after that, a taskforce from the Commission will be on the road to arrest drivers with fake and expired license,” he said.
