The Executive Secretary for the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA), Dr. Prince Armah has warned against public expectations that the final year students at the Senior High school shall all come out with ‘flying colors’ for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination. He opines that the possibility of having some students fail the final exams is real, and that Ghanaians should be guided in their expectations of these first batch of graduates from the Free Senior High School policy.
“You don’t expect all of them to pass. The people who are coming from different backgrounds,” he said.
Dr. Armah explained that the WASSCE is an entrance examination for the tertiary institutions which came to replace the A-Level certificate examination.
“Its not a one sized-fit all. You don’t expect them all to pass the university entrance exams. Some of them will not pass, as always been the case.
“But if they do not pass the good news is that at least, they have been offered secondary education that will enable them to build that mental capacity to function efficiently in society. If they are unable to pass WASSCE that is not the end of life. There are people who didn’t do well in the Senior School certificate exams and yet are doing well in other areas. If you are not academically inclined, you might be hands-on inclined,” he added.
