In his televised 14th address to the nation on the COVID-19 pandemic tonight, President Nana Addo indicated this measure coupled with a few others falls within phase two of the planned measures for easing restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
By this directive, all public transport service will operate at full capacity but with a strict adherence to the wearing of face masks.
Industry players in the aviation service are also required to adhere to this directive.
“The wearing of masks in vehicles and aircrafts are mandatory” President Nana Addo noted.
Asked if the President’s decision to ease these restrictions are as a result of the inconveniences created by transport operators with the increment in fares, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the decision was purely informed by risk assessments taken by the health experts.
He added that, the wearing of these masks in public transports serves as a barrier to the spread of the virus.
