General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketsiah, who is popularly known as General Mosquito, has disclosed that the party would not rely on the Electoral Commission in this year’s election for the electoral results. According to him the EC and its Chairperson, Jean Mensah have proven over time their deafened attitude to concerns raise by the party on the conduct of electoral processes in the country.
He argued that the recent anomalies identified in figures reported for registrants in the Ashanti Region on the voter registration exercise is a deliberate attempt to manipulate the results of the December 7 polls. Mr. Asiedu Nketsia justified that a similar incident happened in 2008, which if not for the vigilance of the party could have caused them the election. He mentioned that the party have learnt their lessons and that would employ their vigilance to monitor the polls
“We are taking our referee there, and that is our vigilance” he told Osei Bonsu of the Ekosisen Show on Asempa FM.
He mentioned that the party will challenge any irregularity with the process to ensure the integrity of the outcome of the electoral process.
“You don’t expect us to be silent when due process is not followed.” Mr. Asiedu Nketsiah stated.
Mobile Registration Centers
Mr. Asiedu Nketsiah disclosed that the party would pursue to the latter the legal action taken against the EC over the registration of voters at the Senior High Schools. He clarified that the EC is required by law to provide a gazzeted list of all registration centers, “and the SHS were not part of the list”
He justified the law needs to take its fullest consequence, and that what the NDC seek is to ensure the right thing is done.
“We will pursue it. We need to enhance the law. We are helping developing the law. If its a legitimate registration we have no issue. But what you do to Paul will be done to Peter” he concluded.
