Data published by the Electoral Commission of Ghana on their Twitter handle and other platforms of the ongoing voter registration exercise has been filled with some anomalies.
An info-graphic posted on the handle as at 13 July, 2020 reported that a total of 4,445,346 persons have been register as at day 12 of the exercise. The infograph as shown above, provides a tally of registrants per day out to say 12.
Prior to this collated data, the commission has been publishing regional statistics of registrants for each day.
Figures on these regional info-graphics (as shown below) differs largely from what has been published in their National Summary (shown above).
A variance analysis of the two sets of data (the regional statistics and the National Summary as published on 13 July, 2020) showed that a total of 38,097 registrants are unaccounted for.
The question is; “is it a misreporting or a deliberate attempt to manipulate the data?”
Now let’s go deeper.
Figures from Day 1 to Day 9 of the regional statistics are incongruous with what has been published in the info-graph (National Summary)
For Day 1, some 31,106 registrants are unaccounted for. In Day 2, registrants totaling 3,585 are missing, and it continues till Day 9.
For the avoidance of any doubt, I implore my readers to tally the results of each day as shown below Nd compare to what is published above.
Clearly, should we go by the daily regional statistics, the total number of registered voters as at Day 12 should be 4,483,443 and not 4,445,346.
