500 Persons to benefit from GH¢ 1.5m Government package for Women’s Football
A total of 500 individuals are set to benefit from the GH¢ 1.5 million Ghana cedis financial package from government to support Women’s Football in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The package entails payment of monthly allowances of GH¢ 500 Ghana cedis for the next 6 months beginning July 1.
The timing of the initiative is very much appropriate as the Ghanaian football sector is in dire need of support due to the CoronaVirus pandemic decimating the sport.
The Ghana Football Association reached a consensus to enroll Women’s Premier League players on the YEA Programme during a meeting at the GFA headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, June 30.
A breakdown of the 500 individuals reveals a total of 480 Women’s Premier League players (30 players from each of the 16 clubs) and 20 other persons in the league.
Each person will be paid five hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢500.00) as a monthly allowance for the next six (6) months.
The National Sports Authority (NSA), National Employment Agency (NEA) and Youth Enterprise Agency (YEA), on Friday, June 27, 2020, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to kick-start the programme.
The implementation of this policy is the vision of YEA Board Chairman Sammi Awuku who has been at the forefront in all deliberations in involving all the parties and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
