The Ministry of Energy has acquired about 20000 acres of land for its one-of-a-kind petroleum hub in the Western Region. The petroleum hub development, the first in Africa, will consist of all petroleum services in the country and in Africa as well.
This came to light when the Ministry met with the chiefs and people of Bonyere in the Western Region to hold a discussion on the lands needed for the project.
Speaking in an interview, the Technical Advisor for the petroleum hub development, Mr. Eric Yeboah stated that, since Bonyere is the selected area for the development of the petroleum hub, it was imperative they met with the affected stakeholders to discuss with them what the government has for them in terms of acquiring their lands for the project.
“Most of the lands are stool lands, and we have been working with the chiefs and the people who are working on the land to access their lands and farms which are involved in this development, as well as the payment of appropriate compensations for them.”
Explaining further, he stated, “This project is export-oriented in nature because the volumes which will be produced will be more than the required consumption of the Ghanaian market.”
Mr Eric Yeboah said the project is in three phases and each phase is expected to take three to four years and at maximum, the full phase will be done in 12 years.
The Chief of Ezulebu, Nana Karoah Blay IV, expressed his joy for this project in the Jomoro district, explaining that this project will help their youths get jobs because everyone will have a share of it.
“We are hoping for the project to commence because it will help the Western Region and Ghana, at large, and nobody will be going out of the country to seek greener pastures. We have been engaged several times concerning the lands and we have located some lands in the area,” he added.
